Reading offers free summer pickup for old trash and recycling carts

Do you have old recycling or trash carts that you no longer need? The Town of Reading is making it easy for residents to dispose of them with special curbside collection events this summer.

Republic Services will offer free curbside pickup of old containers on five consecutive Saturdays, beginning July 12 and running through August 9, 2025. This is a great opportunity to clear out old barrels and make room for updated bins.

Special collection schedule

  • July 12: Monday trash route

  • July 19: Tuesday trash route

  • July 26: Wednesday trash route

  • August 2: Thursday trash route

  • August 9: Friday trash route

Not sure which day your trash and recycling are collected? Check the Town’s collection schedule or contact the Department of Public Works for assistance.

Consider repurposing your old containers

If your old barrels are still in good shape, they can be repurposed! Consider using them for storage, gardening, or as indoor recycling bins to transfer materials to your new outdoor cart.
