Mosquito control spraying scheduled in Reading this summer
The East Middlesex Mosquito Control Project (EMMCP) will be conducting mosquito control spraying in Reading this summer using truck-mounted aerosol sprayers of biological larvicide. The effort is part of the town’s annual strategy to reduce mosquito populations and protect public health.
Scheduled spraying
The first scheduled application is set for Thursday, June 26, 2025, targeting neighborhoods in the vicinity of:
Van Norden Road
Forest Street
Grove Street
Dustin Road
Sanborne Lane
Emerson Street
Pasture Road
Fairchild Drive
Spraying will occur between sunset and 11:30 pm. If the weather postpones the application, it will be rescheduled for the following week.
Product details and safety
The mosquito control product being used is Zenivex E4 (EPA Reg No 2724.807), a non-ester pyrethroid classified by the EPA as a reduced-risk pesticide. The application rate is a minimal 1 ounce per acre.
Zenivex E4:
It is considered low-risk to people and pets when used as directed.
Biodegradable quickly and does not accumulate in the environment.
Does not require beekeepers to take special precautions, as spraying is done after sunset.
While no special precautions are required, residents who see the spray truck are encouraged to briefly go indoors and close windows as the spray passes to further minimize exposure.
