High temperatures expected to continue through Wednesday

With a Heat Advisory in effect for Monday, June 23, and Tuesday, June 24, the Town of Reading is reminding residents to take extra precautions during this stretch of dangerous heat.

Cooling centers available to the public

To help residents stay safe and cool, the following community spaces are open as cooling centers:

  • Reading Public Library

Open Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm

  • Pleasant Street Center

Open Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

  • Burbank YMCA

Residents are welcome to drop in during these hours to cool off, hydrate, and take a break from the heat.

Hot weather continues on Wednesday

While the formal Heat Advisory is currently set to expire Tuesday evening, temperatures are expected to remain high on Wednesday, June 25. Even without an official advisory, residents should continue to exercise caution, especially during the afternoon when temperatures will peak.

Community safety reminder

Please check on elderly neighbors, people with disabilities, and anyone who may be particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a few minutes.

Heat safety tips

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day

  • Avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours

  • Wear light, breathable clothing

  • Take breaks in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible

The Town urges everyone to stay vigilant, stay cool, and look out for one another as this hot weather continues.
