Durgavich statement on local election

Dear Reading Community,

Thank you so much for placing your confidence in me as the newest School Committee member. I want to thank everyone who supported me in my campaign, and everyone who cast a ballot in this year’s election. Participation is key to democracy, and that is needed more than ever right now!

Thank you as well to Tom and Dana for the collegial campaign. It is heartening to know that so many people have a passionate interest in helping Reading’s schools thrive.

Thank you to all of the town staff and volunteers, and especially Laura Gemme, who worked to ensure that the election infrastructure ran smoothly. Your efforts are much appreciated.

And thank you to my family for cheering me on, for helping me accomplish this goal, and for the celebratory milkshake!

I’m excited to join the School Committee, and look forward to collaborating to create an environment where every Reading student can excel. Progress in education happens through partnership between teachers, families, and administrators, and I pledge to work on behalf of all of our students and to be a voice that reflects the concerns of the whole community.

Thank you again for all of your support.

Best,

Lara Durgavich
