Upcoming road construction in Reading: what residents need to know

Over the next several weeks, the Town of Reading’s Department of Public Works (DPW), in collaboration with its contractor Lazaro Paving Corp., will begin road resurfacing and construction work on Summer Ave. This work is part of the Town’s ongoing effort to improve roadway conditions and enhance public infrastructure.

Affected streets

Two streets are scheduled for resurfacing and related work under the current project:

  • Summer Ave (from Willow Street to Woburn Street)

  • Summer Ave (from Woburn Street to Melbourne Ave)

The goal is to complete the construction within two (2) work days, weather permitting.

What residents should expect

The Town is asking for the cooperation of residents to help ensure the project proceeds safely and efficiently. Here are a few important reminders:

  1. No parking during construction hours

Construction is expected to take place on Tuesday, July 1st, at 7:00 am. Please do not park on the roadway or road shoulders during these hours. Parked cars may be towed if they interfere with construction.

  2. Limited access during paving

Roads may be temporarily impassable during active paving operations. If you need to leave your home during these hours, consider parking on a nearby side street ahead of time. Paving each street is expected to take less than one day.

  3. Trash collection adjustments

On your normal collection day, have your trash at the curb by 6:30 am. Earlier pickup may be necessary on days when road closures are in effect.

  4. Follow safety signage and personnel directions

For your safety, please obey all posted signs and directions from police details and construction personnel.

  5. Mark items in the Town right-of-way

Items placed in the public right-of-way - including sprinklers, electric dog fences, mailboxes, or decorative materials - are there at the owner’s risk. To prevent damage, clearly mark any lawn irrigation or dog fencing systems in the affected areas.

  6. Patience and support are appreciated

The DPW and Lazaro Paving Corp. thank residents for their continued patience and understanding as they work to improve the town’s roads.
