Reading trash and recycling service unaffected by regional work stoppage

The Town of Reading is aware of the recent work stoppage related to ongoing labor contract negotiations between Republic Services and union employees. This labor dispute is currently affecting trash and recycling collection in several neighboring communities, including North Reading and Wakefield.

Town officials have been actively monitoring the situation and are in close communication with Republic Services management. At this time, Reading is not impacted by union negotiations or any resulting service disruptions.

Republic Services has confirmed that Reading’s trash and recycling crews are dispatched from their Tyngsboro facility, which is not involved in the current labor action. In contrast, the affected communities receive service from facilities in Peabody and Revere, where the labor dispute is taking place.

Town Manager Matt Kraunelis and the Department of Public Works will continue to stay in contact with Republic to ensure Reading’s waste collection services remain on schedule and uninterrupted during this period.

Residents are encouraged to place their trash and recycling curbside as usual on their regular scheduled pickup days. Should any changes arise, the Town will communicate updates promptly through official channels.

For more information or to report service concerns, residents can contact the Department of Public Works or visit the Town website.
