Road resurfacing to begin soon in Reading: what residents need to know
The Town of Reading’s Department of Public Works (DPQ), in coordination with Lazaro Paving Corp., will begin road resurfacing and related construction work within the next few weeks. This project will affect several roads in town, including areas directly adjacent to homes.
The goal is to complete the work within 4 to 8 weeks of the start date, though this may vary depending on weather and other conditions.
Roads scheduled for construction
Summer Avenue
Woburn Street (from Willow Street to Melbourne Avenue)
Woburn Street (from Lowell Street to West Street)
What residents should expect
To ensure the project progresses efficiently, the DPW is asking for cooperation from residents in the following ways:
No parking during work hours. Please do not park on the roadway or on its sides between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Vehicles that obstruct the construction area may be towed if necessary.
Plan ahead for paving days. Roads may be temporarily impassable during paving. If you need to travel during that time, move your vehicle to a side street ahead of the work. Each road section is expected to be paved within one day.
Trash collection reminder. On your trash day, have bins out by 6:30 am. If your street is closed for paving, collections may occur earlier than usual.
Follow all traffic directions. Please obey the directions of police details, crew members, and posted signage for your safety and the efficiency of the operation.
Mark personal installations in the right-of-way. Items such as sprinkler systems, electric dog fences, paver aprons, or planters in the Town right-of-way are at owner’s risk. Clearly mark sprinkler and fencing locations to avoid damage.
Be patient and supportive. Your cooperation is critical. The Town appreciates your patience and understanding as crews work to improve Reading’s roadways.
