Reading partners with Mystic River Watershed Association to protect local waterways

The Town of Reading is proud to partner with the Mystic Valley Watershed Association (MRWA) in an ongoing effort to protect, improve, and educate the public on the environmental health of the Mystic River Watershed. This partnership focuses on enhancing the ecological health of the river and its tributaries, engaging residents, and ensuring that the watershed remains a sustainable resource for generations to come.

Collaborative environmental initiatives

Through this partnership, Reading and MRWA work together on various initiatives aimed at:

  • Improving water quality in the Mystic River and its surrounding area

  • Raising awareness about the impact of pollution on local waterways

  • Encouraging community involvement in stormwater management and conservation efforts

March focus: stormwater pollution prevention

For the month of March, Reading is highlighting the importance of stormwater pollution prevention. Stormwater runoff - caused by rain or melting snow flowing over streets, sidewalks, and lawns - can carry pollutants like oil, trash, and fertilizers into local waterways, negatively impacting the environment.

Residents are encouraged to learn more about simple ways to reduce stormwater pollution and help keep our rivers clean.
