Reading Lions Club celebrates 20th Friends & Family Day with community, music, and fireworks
The Reading Lions Club proudly hosted its 20th annual Friends & Family Day on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Birch Meadow Field Complex, bringing together residents, organizations, and businesses to celebrate community spirit.
Despite a wet start to the morning, the rain stopped just in time for an afternoon filled with connection, entertainment, and fun. More than 60 community organizations participated, offering residents the opportunity to engage with local committees, nonprofits, and businesses that help shape Reading.
The Reading Lions Club provided delicious food options, while the Reading Rotary Club delighted attendees with cotton candy. Families and children enjoyed the popular Touch-A-Truck exhibit featuring vehicles from the Reading Municipal Light Department, Reading Fire Department, and Reading Police Department. Throughout the day, live music from local bands kept the energy high and the crowd entertained.
The day’s festivities concluded with a spectacular fireworks display in the evening, capping off a successful event that once again showcased Reading’s vibrant community spirit.
“Thanks to the sponsors, organizations, and attendees for helping us make it a great event on Saturday,” said Desiree Zicko of the Reading Lions Club. “We were glad to have so many organizations, departments, and groups attend, and grateful for everyone’s good spirits on the day. Reading Friends & Family Day is one of our favorite events as a club, and we couldn’t do it without the help from groups like the Scouts and our new RMHS Leo’s Club. And of course, our sponsors make the whole thing possible.”
Zicko also shared excitement for the club’s next community event: the Reading Lions/Friends of Reading Rec Journey for Sight 5K Road Race, happening on Thursday, July 18 at 6:30 pm at Memorial Park. “We hope to see you there!”
Thank you to the Reading Lions Club, volunteers, sponsors, and the entire community for making this milestone event a success once again.
