LtE: RCTV
Dear Editor;
We are writing in support of RCTV and the continued financial support needed to keep our cable station up and running.
RCTV has been an important facet of our community for many years, providing local interest and informational programming not available elsewhere. It enables residents who are not elected members of town meeting to observe the proceedings and understand the decisions that are made. RCTV supports the Reading Public Schools by providing coverage of educational and sporting events as well as teaching classes and workshops on television production at their studio. RCTV supports our local businesses and non-profit organizations by highlighting them and the special events they support like 'Shop Around the Block', 'Friends and Family Day', 'Porch Fest', Martin Luther King events, church services, local performances from Reading Community Singers, Reading Symphony Orchestra, Colonial Chorus, etc. All of these events not only entertain but they bring our community together and make it stronger.
A fixture of their yearly programming is the RMHS graduation ceremony providing a way that it can be viewed from a remote location for those that cannot attend in person. RCTV is, and always has been, a valuable tool for Reading's aging population many of whom can not drive at night in providing a way to stay current with town-wide issues and allowing them to provide input to appropriate elected officials and departments. In the same manner RCTV enables access for residents who are ill or handicapped.
RCTV is a valuable asset to our community. I urge you to please continue funding our local cable station so that RCTV can continue serving the town in the wonderful manner that they have done in years past.
Sincerely,
Alan & Beth Mosier
